Book Week

We need to say a huge thank you to our amazing Year 6/7 Resource Centre team who ran Book Week activities for every class. They completely nailed all of our school values - they were responsible (on time and fully prepared for their shifts), respectful (to those they were helping, to each other and to staff), resilient (working through the inevitable moments of boredom and frustration) and creative (with amazing ideas in creating the space and activities and then quickly modifying activities to solve any problems that arose). Thank you and congratulations Dee, Alexie, Eve, Maya, Sol, Ben, Ginger, Isabella, Kate, Ella, Jasper, Dylan, Leah, Jess and Chloe.

Hiragana Competition

On Tuesday 20 October Year 6 students Jasper and Kaden from Room 12, and Claire and James from Room 7 represented our school at the JLTASA Years 6/7 Hiragana Competition. The students competed against nine other schools from across Adelaide to read letters and words in the hiragana alphabet. Our school finished a respectable 7th out of 10, and I was very impressed by the enthusiasm and effort shown by our students and the support and encouragement of both each other and students from other schools. Kaden also came 2nd in the Jan Ken Pon (Rock Paper Scissors) Competition! A special mention must also be given to Chelsea from Room 12 who took on the role of back-up and attended the training sessions with the other four students.

SAPSASA Term 4

Athletics

Term 4 got off to a busy start with the rescheduled SAPSASA combined Southern Heights and City South Athletics Carnival taking place on Tuesday of week 1.

Two of EHPS favourite events saw a total 50 students from years 4-7 representing our school and community.

31 students represented Eden Hills PS at the combined athletics carnival at SA Athletics Stadium at Mile End. All students did an amazing job and were extremely competitive in their events. Congratulations to the eight students pictured below that won ribbons for placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in their events.

A special mention to Molly who has been selected to represent Southern Heights in long jump, 100m sprint and the 4x100m relay in the State Championships next month.

“At SAPSASA I felt very excited to be with my friends while doing sport. I was also very nervous because it was all very new and different to me. It was a fun day.” Zoe

“On Tuesday of week 1, I participated in the SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. You can do 3 events, but I only did 200 m sprint and I did pretty good. In the 200, you do two races, the heats and finals. I came 3rd in the heats and 4th in the finals. SAPSASA is really fun and I met a new friend." Oli G

Basketball

The SAPSASA State Basketball Championship followed closely and took place on the Wednesday of week 2. 17 students represented Eden Hills PS in the SAPSASA Basketball State Championships at Morphett Vale basketball stadium. The boys’ team won 2 of their 5 games and the girls’ team won 1 of their 3 games. Both teams played very entertaining basketball and were extremely competitive in their groups. It was a great day and all students should be proud of themselves!

“I liked playing in SAPSASA basketball because I thought it was fun even though our team didn’t win enough games for the finals. I still think doing this was a great experience because you get to play the best teams in SA, it shows how good a team you are. I also enjoyed playing with my team.” Oliver C

“I was in this year’s basketball SAPSASA and I have competed in the competition three times. We trained for two weeks on our main skills before the competition. We ended up winning one out of three games which I would say is pretty good for what we were up against. I was really impressed on how we all played and had lots of fun while playing. The day was tiring but full of laughs and a great way to represent the school.” Abby

World Teachers’ Day

World Teachers’ Day is with us.

I would like to congratulate our teachers for their achievements this year.

Teaching requires a mixture of skills and passion that few of us can muster. Our teachers need to be special individuals that we can trust to inform and guide our children. We are all aware that it takes energy to run classes and often the extra commitment of many hours of time outside of school.

This year, with the outbreak of COVID 19, our teachers have dealt with months of uncertainty, pressure and drastic operational changes. They have had extraordinary success with keeping classes running and minimising the disruption for our students. Without the resilience and commitment of our teachers, we would be having a very difficult school year.

In the long term, work by our current teachers has markedly improved our school.

Eden Hills Primary School is now recognised as a leading example for teacher collaboration. This has been achieved with concerted planning and effort over several years. We now see the results of this, with our students measurably improving. Our student improvement now ranks us with the best schools in the state.

On behalf of the governing council, please recognise the outstanding work of our teachers, and thank them for their efforts.

NAIDOC Cultural Day

Today we will be celebrating NAIDOC week with our NAIDOC Cultural Day.

The SRC Executive will lead an assembly at 11.00am with a Welcome to Country, from Uncle Tamaru who is from the Deadly Mob Kaurna Cultural Program.

The SRC has also organised each pair of buddy classes to rotate through five separate Indigenous Cultural Activities including Art, Sport and Storytelling for the rest of the day. This will happen between recess and the end of the day.

We are lucky enough to have the Eden Hills Kindy joining us for our assembly and a small play on the playground before they walk back to Kindy.

The SRC Executive walked to Colebrook Reconciliation Park on Monday to help the Kindy and share some food with them (along with other SRC Executives from other schools).

This year, we’re taking part in the People’s Choice Community Lottery to help reach our fundraising goals for 2020. All funds will be going toward our Nature Play area that we are planning to establish.

The Christmas Giving Tree

Eden Hills Primary School will again be assisting the local Lions Club
in supporting families in need in our local community.

We ask that next time you go shopping, you purchase a non-perishable item of food
and/or a toy to place under the Giving Tree in the Office.

The Lions Club will collect the items from school on Friday 27 November.
