Classes of 1986 & 1987 Reunion and Film Viewing

Old Scholars from the Year 7 classes of 1986 and 1987 were reunited with their former Principal and his wife, Mr and Mrs Ian and Gail Fowler, at school on Sunday 14 April 2019. The former students, many of whom had re-connected at the time of the School Centenary in 2016, gathered to view live action and stop-motion animation films created under the leadership of Mr Fowler during their time at school. The original 8mm films have been transferred to digital format, and this was their first official viewing in over 35 years.

Eighteen Old Scholars, representing more than half of the combined classes of 1986 and 1987, were involved in planning the reunion, with 12 attending on the day, together with their children and parents. All of the former students hold their former school and principal in the highest regard and with the greatest respect. We were overjoyed to have had the privilege of hosting the reunion at school, and to have the opportunity to honour Mr Fowler. Many fond memories were shared, and many Old Scholars took the opportunity to revisit the school grounds, and enjoy seeing their children explore their own old favourite spots.

At Mr Fowler’s behest, the 8mm film reels have been donated to the school archives, together with a digital copy for the enjoyment of current and future staff and students. The films showcased not only the students, but also the school grounds as there were in the mid-1980s. We also remarked that we were fortunate to have grown up in the 1980s, where rules and regulations were far less stringent: we could never have gotten away with some of the filmed exploits today!

Our collective thanks go to Heather and Jason for enabling the reunion to take place at Eden Hills Primary, and for their practical assistance.

ANZAC Dawn Service 2019

On 25 April 2019 we went to the Anzac Day Dawn Service at Blackwood. We laid a wreath, it was really pretty. The dawn service started at 6.30am and went for around 45 minutes. During those 45 minutes we acknowledged the soldiers that fought for our country during the wars. Our names, along with other schools and organisations, were called out as we were laying the wreath. It was a wonderful experience and we are very grateful that we got chosen to represent our school at the Anzac Day Dawn service 2019.

Pedal Prix

Our Pedal Prix Team ‘Speed’n Eden’ has been training over the last month, achieving a PB at each session. Everyone has been working well as a team, encouraging each other to push themselves to improve times and confidence on the track.

The Team is headed to Loxton for its first 6 hour race this weekend.

Resource Centre News

Brittany and Breanna, two of our Year 6/7 Resource Centre helpers, are running a competition to guess how many books we have in the Resource Centre.

Look for the posters around the school for more details. Entries are open now and will close at the end of Week 2. Great prizes to be won!

Winners will be announced at Week 3 Assembly.

Japanese

Konnichiwa! Elin and I have had a great start to the year and we are really enjoying teaching the Eden Hills Primary students about Japanese language and culture. The following is an outline of the topics we plan on covering.

Assembly Amendment

The first assembly of this term will be on Wednesday of week 4, 22nd May (instead of week 3) due to NAPLAN.

Woolworths Earn & Learn

Starting Wednesday 1 May, staff, parents, family and friends can collect stickers to support our school when they shop at Woolworths.

With every $10 spent at Woolworths, one sticker is collected. The stickers can be placed onto the Earn & Learn sticker sheets and dropped into the collection box in the office at Eden Hills Primary School or at your local Woolworths.

With the stickers you collect we can choose equipment for our School’s own learning needs across Arts & Craft, Digital Technologies, Maths, English, Science, Outdoor and Indoor Play and more.

Absences, Every Day Counts

NAPLAN

A reminder that students in Years 3, 5 & 7 will be participating in NAPLAN Week 3, 14-17 May and Week 4, 20-24 May. This will include catch up days for those students who are absent.

Change in Personal Details

Remember to notify the office staff of any change in contact details including addresses (residential, postal or email) and phone numbers (home, mobile or work).
