End of Term
We come to the end of yet another term, full of wonderful learning experiences and achievements. I have been exceptionally proud of the commitment to learning improvement of both our students and staff throughout Term 3. There have been multiple academic, sporting and arts highlights and our leadership team was especially privileged to get the opportunity to see our students perform Tuesday night at the Primary School’s Music Festival at the Festival Theatre. Our student performances in the Choir were outstanding and the event was wonderful way to celebrate the commitment and hard work of everyone involved. An enormous thank you to Josie and Jan and our families for their efforts in guiding, supporting and organizing the choir throughout the year, congratulations to you all and especially to our amazing students:
Neko, Abigail, Caitlin, Annabelle, Emilie, Amelie, Harry, Maia, Acacia, Nivyn, Ella, Grace, Steph, Charlie, Jacob, George, Harper, Savanah, Lucy, Heath and Eleanor!
Staffing
Next term we warmly welcome back Maya from maternity leave to Dance and Drama. We also sadly say farewell to Karla who will be beginning her maternity leave in Term 4. Karla has made wonderful contributions to our students in her time at Eden Hills, and we thank and wish her all the very best with the next exciting phase of her family life.
Student Led Conferences
This week we held our student led conferences. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who participated in the recent Student Led Conferences. These conferences are an invaluable platform for self-reflection and for developing meaningful connections between students, parents, and educators. This collaborative effort sends a powerful message, that we are all invested in the growth of our students.
One of the standout features is the level of ownership and responsibility demonstrated by our students. They take charge of the process, from setting goals to preparing presentations and articulating their progress. This level of engagement fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability and empowers them to develop critical skills such as communication, organization, and self-evaluation.
The conferences displayed the self-assessment that occurs regularly in classrooms. Through guided reflection, students are encouraged to identify their strengths, areas for improvement, and the steps needed to achieve their goals. This self-awareness equips them with the tools to become effective and independent learners, a skill that will serve them well beyond their school years.
The Student Led Conferences offer a wonderful moment to celebrate and acknowledge our students’ growth and achievements.
Thank you all for your valuable contributions throughout the term and I wish you all a restful and rewarding break with your families and loved ones over the Term 3 school holidays. We look forward to seeing you all when we return on Monday 14 October.
Warmest regards,
Andrew Dowling
Water Safety
Room 8 Reflections
Swimming was fun because the activities were good, they were not too difficult, but they help with swimming strategies. We worked on a variety of different survival strokes, and we worked on a lot of chicken star soldier. We also had a day of scenarios and a day with cloths on. The last day was the best them all because we did an obstacle course and we played lots of games.

Not long ago our classroom Room 8 went to water safety at Westminster School. It went on for four days, and we learnt a lot of new stuff and improved on strokes we already knew. We did so much fun stuff like ‘stuck in the mud (pool edition),’ ‘swimming underwater without goggles and getting a sinky,’ and all other fun stuff to do in the pool. The second day, my group had a clothes swim, we had to swim to one end of the pool with a lifejacket and clothes, take off the lifejacket and swim back to the other side, then we would take our clothes off in the water and hop out. We did a lot of rescuing each day like throwing out pool noodles and someone had to grab it, and you pull them to you and lock them with your hands, so they do not fall and drown.

At swimming week we played games and we learned how to do survival strokes that will help us when we are in the sea and in danger. My swimming teacher was very nice. Every day I was very excited to go to swimming because I had my friends with me and we did lots of fun things like we did girls verse boys swimming races in survival strokes the girls won. Even if I was not the best in the class I still had lots of fun.

A few weeks ago, we had water safety swimming week. In the swimming week we learned safety swims that can get you far in the water without taking much energy. The safety swim we focused on was called chicken, star, soldier. The way you performed chicken, star, soldier was you started with a push off the wall next you put your arms in a chicken wing position then you put your arms up like a star next you glide your hands down to a soldier position and glide through the water. During safety swim week we had to put another layer of normal clothes on
and try to take them off in the water without touching the ground. It was very hard but it was totally worth it.

I think swimming week was pretty fun because the activities that we did were not hard but not easy and the last day was the most fun because we played chasey and many other fun games. We also did different scenarios on saving people if they have a cramp, are tired or can’t swim.

I liked swimming because I love two be in the water and just swim even through, we had a teacher it still felt like I was free swimming. I thought it was interesting that we had the same obstacle course as last year because I personally thought we would have a different obstacle course as last year.

I am glad we get to do swimming safety because some people do not get to do so. It was super fun, and we played a lot of fun games. The best part was when we played in the big pool when we played stuck in the mud. The part that was not so good was when you would try to put your goggles on, and you were holding up the rest of the class. Something I am looking forward to is aquatics.

Book Week
This year’s Book Week theme was “Reading is Magic,” and at Eden Hills Primary School, we kicked off the celebrations a little early with a whole school incursion on Friday, 16th August. Students were entertained in the SAC with a performance by Perform Education called “Maybe a Miracle”. This interactive and engaging show was based on a selection of the 2024 CBCA short-listed books and offered a musical exploration of finding joy in even the most ordinary situations. It celebrated the power of positive thinking and was a joyful leap into the world of imagination that books inspire in every individual.
The following Monday, our amazing Year 6 Resource Centre Team (Lulu, Savanah, Sophie, Alice, Ellie, Acacia, Eleanor, George, Neko, & Abby) began running Book Week activities for all classes. They put in a lot of thought and time to create decorative and inviting spaces for students to enjoy the activities and enter some fun competitions. Every class had the opportunity to visit and participate throughout the week.
Wednesday was dress-up day. Staff came to school dressed in black and wore different magic hats, inspired by the simple magic hat in Mem Fox’s book The Magic Hat. Many students dressed up as their favourite book characters, showing off some very creative and colourful outfits. During a Book Week assembly, run by Room 11 and attended by many parents, each class had the opportunity to parade on stage and showcase their Book Week characters.
“This year for Book Week, I dressed up as Pippi Longstocking. Pippi is very naughty and has a pet monkey named Waddle. She has no parents and causes a lot of mischief.”

“This year for Book Week, I dressed up as the boy from Up and Down. He has a friend who is a penguin, and they do everything together. They like the same games.”

“This year for Book Week, I dressed up as Pikachu. Pikachu is a Pokémon with electric powers. He is an electric type.” By Laurence
Special thanks go to our Resource Centre Manager, Jo McIntyre, and the Year 6 Resource Centre Team for their dedication and creativity.
A few weeks ago, we had book week, on one of the days of book week we could dress up. Book week is a great way to buy time with fun interactive tasks to do. On this book week I dressed up as a skeleton with a creepy mask. Later in the week we had book week tasks to do and since this book week was revolving around magic, we had magic tasks. The task was a colorful magic trick you basically drew on a piece of paper drew on a piece of plastic and slide it through a slit. Some of the magic tricks were a bit dull but overall, I think book week was a fun interactive task and good for all ages.

When I had my book week lesson it was very fun. Every year we do a different activity. This year we did these things where you colour a picture in and trace it on to a clear sheet. After that you slide it in and then you have made it and after you do that can go on with other task they have.

On Book Week on Wednesday I dressed up as Claudia Kishi from the Baby Sitters Club. I went to Breakfast Club, and I saw 3 more people dressed up as Claudia. We had an Assembly and then we had a Book Week parade. My sister dressed up as the Grand High Witch from the book Witches she had dyed her hair blue to match the Grand High Witch. My dress up was a stripy T-shirt, navy blue trackpants, black shoes and pink hair. My favorite part of book week was the parade and dressing up. Book week was really fun.

Market Day
As part of room 12's learning in HASS (Business and Economics) students negotiated permission to hold a market to raise additional funds for their EOY graduation celebrations. They felt that this would be an effective way to ‘take action’, involve the whole school and problem solve on the job. The market was held in the SAC between recess and lunch, on Friday 30th August.
There were a wide variety of stalls, requiring different effort and skill sets. Students came up with these themselves.
They were; Bookmarks, Pet rocks, Colouring books, Key-rings, Gumnut ornaments, Henna tattoos, Terrariums, Rubix cubes and a Smash Stall!
No items were over $5:00, most were between 20c & 50c, $1:00.
We are extremely proud that the market made $860.00!!!!!
Thank you so much for the generosity and support of those who attended and helped with this successful initiative.
Please click the links below to see the student reflections from each stall.
Art Work
There are over 400 hundred artworks entered in the Royal Adelaide Art Prize. On display throughout the Show is work by some of the most talented artist in Australia including one of our very own!
I entered my artwork called Dragon Trader into the Royal Adelaide Show this year. Firstly, when I had an idea of what I wanted to draw I started off by sketching out a draft with pencil. After that was done, I lightly sketched the detail. To finish off I used marker and felt tip pen for the outline. I was inspired by my favourite book series Wings of Fire. It was really exciting to see my artwork on display. Grace

Japanese Cultural Day
Konnichiwa,
On Tuesday, the 15th of October, Eden Hills Primary School will be celebrating the amazing culture of Japan by having a whole-school Japanese Day. In the morning, we will be having a short Japanese themed assembly in which the Cultural Day will be introduced.
Afterwards, classes will be travelling around the school and participating in various cultural activities; Mario Kart box-car relays, creating spotty artwork inspired by the brilliant Yayoi Kusama – a Japanese artist who is famous for her spotty artworks, origami, suikawari – a traditional Japanese game which is similar to Pinata but with a watermelon, a scavenger hunt, Jan Ken Pon ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ jumping hoops game, listening to a Japanese story and an interactive Japanese performance.
To get into the spirit of the day, we encourage students to dress-up in Japanese themed attire (e.g. sumo, karate, Hello Kitty, samurai, Totoro, Pokémon, judo, manga, anime, kimono etc.) or wear red and white, the colours of the Japanese flag. If they are unable to dress up, school uniform is still required.
