Middle of Term 2
We have reached the halfway point of Term 2. It’s been a busy term so far, full of great learning and events including SAPSASA, incursions and excursions. We have also received wonderful news that Kellie has had her role as Deputy Principal rolled over for 3 more years. This is a fantastic recognition of the quality leadership Kellie provides to our school and we are absolutely thrilled at the reappointment. Congratulations Kellie!
Our site is currently in the early transition stages of the Department’s Education Management System (EMS). This has involved significant data collation and cleansing, planning, preparation and liaising with the Department to ensure a smooth transition. The EMS will provide a more streamlined way of operating and a reduction in paper with various digital functions including:
Finance and billing
Enrolments, SMS and Attendance
Attendance Kiosk
Academic recording and reporting
EDsmart communication tools
It has been an enormous, but rewarding, learning curve for all staff and continues to be rolled out systematically. As we become more familiar with the various processes and capabilities, we will introduce more functions to enhance the management of the school. I would especially like to thank the Admin team and staff for their amazing efforts in preparing for and facilitating the transition. Their contributions meant that a highly complex task went as smoothly as possible for our school.
We also take part in National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Week is an important chance for schools and for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Students and staff have engaged in variety of learning activities to support this year’s theme of “Now More than Ever”.
Warm regards,
Andrew

SAPOL Visit
Look Out for Fake Things Online!
Last week the SAPOL (South Australian Police) came to our class. They taught us about how to stay safe online, how to look out for fake mail, or things that seem real but are actually from bad people.
One thing to look out for are tests, such as a “what Harry Potter character are you?” because it might be fun, but if it starts asking personal questions or about where you go to school or live, then you should stop and do a different one.
Another thing to look out for is, words spelled wrong. If you get an email from ‘RoBlocks’ saying you need to change your password, then you will know its fake, firstly, if you don’t have Roblox, then it’s definitely fake and secondly ‘Roblox’ is spelt wrong. If it had a big “click here” button, then you should not click there, because you can just change your password in the app.
Also, make sure not to post photos online of you with a badge that has your name on it, or a school shirt with your school logo, and don’t tell any strangers your personal details. Acacia
Last week on Thursday Matt from SAPOL (South Australia Police) came to talk to the year 6s about cyber safety. He talked to us about strategies to use when online to keep yourself safe.
Matt talked to us about using an e-safety website. The e-safety website had strategies to use when you might be experiencing any online trouble. This website is easy to access via the Eden Hills Primary School Intranet. It’s called ‘Cyber Safety’ and looks like a red button with the word help on it.
On the cyber safety website, you can learn how to be safe online and if you need, it can also help with any problems that you may be having. You can also report any online problems that you may be dealing with.
If you need any support with any online problems, you can also contact the kid’s helpline, either by calling their number 1800 55 1800 or you can use a webchat on their website. Sophie
On the 23rd of May, an officer from SAPOL (South Australian Police) named Matt came to talk to us about being safe online.
One of the biggest takeaways for me was checking to make sure that the website is secure. Unless you are on an intranet for a school, there should be a lock. If there isn’t a lock that means the website is not safe.
Another big takeaway is to always make sure that the URL is correct and not a fake website to make sure that nobody takes your passwords for anything.
It is important to not trust anyone online that you don’t know in person, unless it is like a person from the bank or some other trusted person online.
I also learnt about the e-Safety website and where to find it. You can find it in the school intranet page or just search it up on the internet.
Overall, it was a good reminder to stay safe online. Owen
National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This year’s book was BOWERBIRD BLUES by Aura Parker

花見(Hanami)is a traditional Japanese custom known as Cherry Blossom Viewing. In April students from Reception to Year 6 celebrated ‘Hanami’ through a variety of craft activities. Their amazing artwork is displayed in the library.
