Newsletter 3 May 2024
Term 2
Welcome back to all our students and families, we hope this Newsletter finds you well and ready for another exciting term at Eden Hills Primary. As we enter the second term, we’re looking forward to continuing the momentum from term 1. Term 2 is always a busy term full of activities and events and we’re looking forward to seeing the continued growth and development of our students.
Our Pupil Free Day professional learning had a focus on wellbeing as well as time to develop our priorities and learning plans for the term ahead. I also want to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between school work, extracurricular activities, and personal time. As the term progresses, let's all make an effort to prioritize self-care and wellbeing.
We also welcome Amanda, Jess and the team from Camp Australia to Eden Hills Primary School. They are working hard towards a smooth transition of our Out of School Hours Care Program and we look forward to our journey ahead together.
Warm regards,
Andrew
Secondary School Enrolments
The Year 6 students received a ‘Starting Secondary School in 2025’ booklet in the last week of Term 1 for parents to access. This booklet contains useful information about the process of enrolling students into secondary schools. Parents received an email this week, providing an online registration of interest form for secondary school. The form allows you to nominate a public secondary school or schools you would like your child to attend in 2025. Complete and submit the form by 24 May 2024.
Parents can find out more on the Department’s website.
Something Borrowed Fundraiser Day
The SRC Execs would like to thank everyone for their donations on the ‘Something Borrowed Fundraiser Day’.
Together we have raised a total of $238 for World Vision.
School Lunch Boxes
Late last term on the cooler days we noticed an increase of students coming to the office saying they were still hungry after eating all the contents of their lunch boxes.
The colder weather leads to a drop in our body temperature, which means our appetites get stimulated as a result. Can we please ask that during the cooler months you pack a little extra in your children’s lunch box for those days when they are extra hungry.
Illness
Just a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. All students and staff who are unwell with fever and/or respiratory infection or gastro like symptoms should remain at home and seek medical advice.
By staying at home, the spread of illness can hopefully be contained, which then causes less disruption and risk to students and staff.
The Department of Health have a great link to ‘Exclusion from childcare, preschool, school and work’, which lists multiple illnesses/medical conditions and explains details like definitions, incubation and infectious periods as well as treatments, preventions and whether your child needs to be or how long they should be excluded from school until recovered.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club will start next week!

Dogs On School Grounds
A friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted on school grounds at any time. There has been an increasing number of unleashed dogs seen at the school particularly on weekends and after hours which goes against the The Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 in situ. This legislation states no dogs or cats are permitted on school grounds at any time unless they are given approval by the principal or are trained assistance animals. If you use the school to exercise your pets after hours we ask that you please choose an alternate location and if you know of others using the school for this purpose please let them know of this reminder. If you observe people using the grounds with dogs after hours you can contact the Mitcham Council on 08 8372 8888.
We also ask you be mindful when waiting at the gate at drop off and pick up with your leashed dog to give some space to children going in/out the gate. Please stand back a little and be mindful of children who are more fearful of dogs that are trying to access kiss and drop cars.
