Newsletter 5 April 2024
End of Term 1
Congratulations to all of our students and staff on a wonderful first term. It has been a term full of fantastic achievements and a real sense of productive learning across the classrooms.
Pupil Free Day
At the end of week 6 we held our Pupil Free Day where some of our staff attended a professional learning session on Spelling and Morphology. Staff learnt the theory that underpins effective spelling instruction, did a deep dive into morphology and had a practical planning session to support them to:
- teach using a range of high impact, evidence informed spelling strategies
- develop and implement a daily instructional routine for spelling and morphology
- use the meta-language of spelling and know how to build this in their classroom.
NAPLAN
Student in years 3 and 5 have now completed their NAPLAN assessments in the domains of Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. Kellie and Aasanna, our IT technician, spent a considerable amount of time planning and preparing the smooth delivery of the testing period. The results will be made available to the school and families later this year.
Thank you all for your contributions throughout this term, and I wish you all a safe and rewarding time with your families over the break. We look forward to seeing our students return on Tuesday 30 April.
Warm regards,
Andrew
Harmony Day
Harmony Day's theme is "Everybody Belongs" and the aim is to encourage inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural backgrounds.
All students engaged in a Harmony Day activity by weaving a piece of fabric through the spokes of a wheel to bring together a rich tapestry that promoted a sense of inclusiveness, collaboration and a sense of belonging. All students in their classes have worked alongside each other to create their wheels of tapestries, acknowledging the true meaning of Harmony Day. The tapestry wheels are displayed on the front fence of the school.
It was very special to see all students so engaged in this activity.
Nature Play News
The weather this term has allowed our staff to facilitate numerous enriching outdoor learning experiences, particularly within the Nature Play Space. In week 5, Trent Hill from the Aboriginal Building and Civil Construction Academy collaborated with Year 1 students to enhance their understanding of the significance of plants and other natural materials to the Kaurna people. He also provided a demonstration of toolmaking using some of these natural resources.
Additional classes have embraced outdoor learning, with the establishment of several raised garden beds for student projects. The Green Team is actively involved in creating an Indigenous Garden in the raised area behind the Upper Playground, dedicating their efforts to weeding and preparing this section of Nature Play.
Potion making and cubby building continue to persist as popular recreational activities during free time.
This year, our goal is to continue enhancing this invaluable resource. We are currently in search of equipment donations for our outdoor kitchen. If you possess stainless steel or wooden pots, pans, utensils, or any other kitchen equipment, your contribution would be greatly appreciated. We are also in need of more sticks for our cubby/teepee building supplies. Donations of straight or forked sticks, measuring 2.5 - 3m in length, would be particularly helpful. Donations can be conveniently left outside the propagation shed.
Thank you for your support.

Wellbeing
Welcome back to all our students and families and especially to our new students and their families. I hope you all had wonderful holidays and that your first few weeks back at school have gone smoothly.
For the new students and your families, I would like to introduce myself and share with you what I do at the school and give you some information about the program I work in. The program that I work in, is called the National Wellbeing Program. The program aims to support schools promoting the well-being of all students with a focus on their social and emotional well-being needs.
I came into this role with a background in counselling, art therapy and training and assessment with a community development focus.
I have been working in this well-being role at EHPS for the past 9 years. I strive to support students to have a voice and develop a sense of what healthy well-being looks like. I work with individuals and small groups of students, with a focus on developing student’s social skills and conflict resolution skills, as well as building confidence and positive self-talk. I meet students where they are at, and together, we navigate and explore a path that they can take charge and be responsible in, and that is also realistic and achievable. Students can self-refer, alternatively their parents/guardians or teachers can refer.
I have really valued and enjoyed being part of the EHPS team and community, I continue to ensure that the students, staff, families, and school community are supported around their well-being needs.
I only work on Wednesdays from 8am to 4pm. I work alongside Perdita in Breakfast Club on Wednesday mornings, so please come in and say hi.
If you would like further clarification about anything, please feel free to book a time through the Front Office.
Kind regards
Pamela Hansen

Lunch Time Clubs
Dungeons and Dragons
Dungeons and Dragons club has been going great. Everyone has been having a ball! We have been playing D&D in the learning street on Fridays at lunch and we have three campaigns going on run by Max, Jacob & Harper and Nivyn. They are the DMs (dungeon masters), and they are making sure that the players are having a fun time playing. After all that’s what D&D is all about! When we did our first time playing it, we got a lot more players than we expected! They were pouring through the door, and we didn’t know what to do at first! But then we sorted them out into tables and played some D&D. It was all okay in the end. We all had lots of fun. Harper
Lego
In Lego club we gather in the library on a Friday at lunchtime. Together we start making a masterpiece. If you like your creation, we can save it so that next time you can continue on your creation. Hope to see you there. Adam
Magazine
In magazine club we make a school magazine each term. Leading up to this anyone who wants to put something in the magazine meets in room 11 on a Wednesday at lunch. People can make headers, cartoons, stories, pictures, games or anything you can think of, and they will be put in the magazine at the end of the term. If your work is unfinished, it is because you never came to finish it and please remember to put your name and class on your wonderful work. Acacia
Arts and Craft
Arts and crafts club have had a wonderful start. The kids that have been coming to the library on Tuesdays have been having a wonderful time. Every Tuesday we have something brand new to make; chatterboxes, bookmarks and make your own board game. We try to get something new and exciting each time so the whole school can get creative with their work. If you see the arts and crafts sign anywhere in the school, make sure you come along to get your creative on. Savanah
Trivia
Trivia club is on Wednesdays at lunch in the library. We have a new quiz every week. We ask questions about everything and have a few funny ones too. We switch who makes the quizzes every fortnight. It is going well, and everyone is having lots of fun. We’d love to see you there. Alfred & Tenzin
Board Games
Board Game club is on Monday at lunchtime in the Resource Centre. Come and join us to learn to play some of our special games that are not available at other times, including some brand-new ones. Melissa (SSO)

Welcome
Hello! My name is Melanie Kinsman and I am a Master of Social Work student at Flinders University. I am currently on placement at Eden Hills Primary school. As part of my role, I will be conducting social skills programs such as ‘What’s the Buzz’ for small groups of students. In these sessions, I aim to empower young people to reach their full potential. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone over the coming weeks, especially those children who will be involved in the programs I’m running. In my spare time I like to read, watch films, and garden.
