NAPLAN
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year.
NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
The NAPLAN test window runs from the 13th to 22nd March.
Our school timetable for assessments is as follows:
Wed 13 Mar: 9:00 – 10:40am Year 3 Writing, 11:00am – 12:40pm Year 5 Writing
Thurs 14 Mar: 9:00 – 10:40am Year 3 Reading, 11:00 to 12:40am Year 5 Reading
Friday 15 Mar: 9:00 – 10:40am Year 5 Conventions of Language, 11:00 to 12:40am Year 3 Conventions of Language
Monday 10 Mar: 9:00 – 10:40am Year 5 Numeracy, 11:00 to 12:40am Year 3 Numeracy

KESAB Bin Blitz
We recently participated in a KESAB Bin Blitz education session for staff, students and our cleaners. This interactive session provided education around the new bin system and how to best implement the new initiative in our site. The session generated great discussion across the school and we will continue to strategically phase in the new system throughout classes.
Warm regards,
Andrew
Aquatics
On Monday week 3, after a half an hour bus ride, Room 12 arrived at Port Noarlunga for aquatics! When we got there, we got to do different activities in groups with our friends, such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding snorkelling and boogie boarding. I really enjoyed having fun with my friends and surfing the small waves. We finished early because it was such a hot day.

On Monday week 3 after a half an hour bus ride, Room 12 arrived at Port Noarlunga for aquatics! When we got there, we split up into seven groups to do different activities, such as surfing, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling and boogie boarding. One group saw a Port Jackson shark whilst snorkelling and another group saw a small species of jellyfish. One of the other activities that was fun was surfing even though there weren’t many waves. There was still a couple which made it enjoyable. I had a really fun day because it's the first time I snorkelled, and I was with my friends.

SRC Executives
The SRC executive team went to a GRIP leadership conference on the 26 February. We travelled in Ainslie’s car to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. There were many schools, and some schools had a full class representing their school.
We started at 9:00 am. In our first session we had an introduction and did a fun activity. The activity was to find different people from different schools and ask them whether they had the skills listed in the booklet.
This was a fun way to learn new skills and get to meet people. It was really interactive, and we felt involved.

On Monday 26 February the SRC executives went to the Entertainment Centre for a leadership conference. The SRC team left at 8:00 AM and travelled in a private vehicle to the entertainment Centre for a 9 o’clock start. Before we went in, we met up with all our partnership schools. Throughout the day we did lots of different activities, like working on being a leader, the different sacrifices that need to be made to be a leader, and some skills to improve our running of meetings. There were a lot of fun games throughout the day where you could win badges and a school shoutout.

Australian Ninja Nationals
In January Steph and Rowan represented SA at the Australian Ninja Nationals in Perth. They both did very well in the heats and finals, Steph finishing 6th and Rowan 7th in their age groups. Their fantastic results at Nationals means they have qualified for the World Ninja Finals and they will be travelling to the USA to compete as part of Team Australia later in the year.
OSHC
Camp Australia will be holding a parent information session on Wednesday 6 March 2024 in the afternoon.
This will be a great opportunity to meet with Camp Australia staff and ask any questions about bookings etc.
Bushfire Information
Eden Hills Primary School, along with other schools in the area, have been rated as high risk by the CFS. In times of a declared Catastrophic Day (Code Red) in the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Ban District, the school will be CLOSED.
This declaration usually occurs after 4.30pm for the following day with the Minister for Education confirming school closures thereafter.
In the event that Eden Hills Primary School is closed due to a Catastrophic Day, we will aim to contact parents as soon as possible via SMS, and then follow up with a Schoolzine email so that care arrangements can be made.

Water Bottles
To stay hydrated, it’s important to drink before you feel thirsty. This is especially important if you are exercising or if it’s a hot day. Even if you’re not thirsty, try to drink water regularly throughout the day.
This is a reminder for our students to bring their own water bottles to school, especially as we have had some really hot temperatures lately. Water bottles can be refilled from the taps throughout the day.
Hats
The Departmental sun protection policy is in effect for Terms 1, 3 and 4 and whenever UV radiation levels reach 3 or above. All students are required to wear hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. bucket, legionnaire or broad brimmed. Baseball or peak caps are NOT considered a suitable alternative.
We sell bucket hats in the office for $10. The broad brimmed and legionnaire hats can be purchased from retail stores or specialist uniform shops.
Head Lice
Currently we have a number of cases of headlice presenting at school. We would appreciate you contacting us, if your child/ren is affected, so we can keep our community informed.
Please find attached a Fact Sheet from SA Health of treatments and preventative measures which may be a support to families.
Starting Secondary School in 2025
At the start of Term 2 the families of students in Year 6 will start to receive correspondence regarding the high school enrolment and transition process.
The important thing for families to do this term is to ensure all Year 6 students have accurate address details and contact information for parents. If you have changed address, don’t forget that you must provide proof of residence to the office as soon as possible. The Department for Education require confirmation of the child or young person’s residential address(es) under the Education and Children’s Services Act 2019 (SA).
The following primary documents will be accepted:
Parents who own their residence must provide:
- a recent gas or electricity bill for that property.
Parents who rent their residence must provide:
- a rental agreement that covers the first 12-months at the school
- a bond receipt lodged with Consumer and Business Services
- a recent gas or electricity bill for that property.
Start to have discussions within your family about the possible schools and goals that your child may have regarding high school.
Please keep a look out for open days or school tours of your local high schools or schools of special interest. As we are informed, we will advertise events in the school newsletter.

Parking Around School Zones

Please be aware any breaches of the Australian Road Rules 1999 observed by Community Safety Officers may result in the issue of an expiation notice.
Please click the link below to the ‘Children Schools & Traffic’ brochure which has information for drivers about public and student safety at school drop off and pick up times.
